Sleep well thanks to quality pillows and bolsters
Sleep well with quality pillows and bolsters. Just like the mattress, pillows and bolsters have a real impact on sleep quality. It is therefore important to choose the right pillow or bolster model to ensure peaceful and restful nights.
What is the difference between a pillow and a bolster?
Pillows and bolsters both serve the same function: to support the head and neck during sleep. However, they differ in size and shape. A pillow is smaller and thicker than a bolster. The shape of a pillow is designed to support the head and neck in such a way that the spine remains aligned during sleep. The bolster, on the other hand, is longer and narrower than a pillow. It can therefore support the neck, just like a pillow, but sometimes also has other functions. For example, a bolster can be placed under the knees to elevate the legs or relieve lower back pain. A bolster can also be folded in half to adapt to various needs.
The importance of pillow and bolster fills
Pillows and bolsters can be made from various materials. It is important to pay attention to the filling of your pillow or bolster, as this impacts the characteristics of this nighttime accessory. There are various natural fillings, such as down or feathers. Bonsoirs, for instance, offers 100% natural pillows, filled with down and plumettes. This type of filling provides great comfort and good breathability. However, pillows and bolsters with synthetic fillings also have their advantages. Synthetic filling often allows for a higher level of firmness, while also facilitating the washing and maintenance of the pillow or bolster. Finally, choosing a synthetic bolster or pillow is the ideal solution for those allergic to feathers.
High-quality fabric and meticulous finishes for high-end pillows and bolsters
The quality of the fabric covering a pillow or bolster is also crucial. This fabric is, in fact, in direct contact with the skin of your face for many hours. The combed cotton used for Bonsoirs pillow and bolster covers, for instance, offers superior softness and comfort compared to other, lesser quality fabrics. This also helps prevent potential skin irritations or excessive perspiration. All our pillows and bolsters are therefore crafted from fabrics made without toxic substances, safeguarding both human health and the environment.
When should you change your pillow or bolster for a better night's sleep?
It is generally recommended to replace your pillow or bolster approximately every two years. After a certain period of use, the filling may indeed begin to sag. The support for your head and neck then becomes less effective. It is also important to change your pillow or bolster relatively quickly if you experience pain in your neck or shoulders, or discomfort in your back. Waking up feeling unrested can also be a sign that the pillow or bolster is no longer performing its role correctly. Carefully monitoring the condition of your bolster and pillow, and acquiring a new model if necessary, is essential for quality sleep and optimizing your daily comfort.

Size guide: which pillow size should you choose?
Square Pillow (65x65 cm)
Use: This is the quintessential French standard size.
Ideal for: Those who enjoy reading or having breakfast in bed. It offers excellent back support in a seated position.
Aesthetics: Adds volume to your bed once tucked in.
Rectangular Shape (50x70 cm)
Usage: This is the American or hotel size.
Ideal for: Sleeping. Its lower height is better suited to body shape and cervical support (the shoulder does not bump against the pillow).
Space-saving: Ideal for larger individuals or shorter beds.
Mattress width and quantity
Single bed (90 cm): 1 pillow (square or rectangular).
Double bed (140, 160 or 180 cm): 2 pillows side by side.
Design Tip: Layer two square pillows at the back and two rectangular pillows in front for a 5-star hotel bed effect.
What comfort for your sleeping position?
Soft Comfort
Do you mainly sleep on your stomach? Opt for a soft feel. It allows your head to stay in alignment with your spine without creating tension in your neck, for an immediate cloud-like sensation.
Medium-Firm Comfort
Do you sleep on your back or move around a lot? The medium-firm comfort is the ideal compromise. It offers balanced support for your head and neck while maintaining a cozy, enveloping feel.
Firm Comfort
Do you sleep on your side or have broad shoulders? A firmer comfort is recommended to fill the space between the mattress and your head, ensuring optimal support for your neck throughout the night.
