A bedspread is an optional element when linen is mentioned, but in grand homes, it is making a remarkable comeback. The reason? It is the accessory that adds a touch of comfort and decor to your bed. With this simple piece of fabric, you bring a new dimension to the bedroom.
How to choose your bedspread?
To ensure an elegant aesthetic, it is advisable to avoid certain mistakes. In particular, you must start by being vigilant about the size. It is not uncommon to choose a bedspread that is too small, which results in an unaesthetic appearance.
Therefore, ensure your bedspread is sufficiently large for the size of your bed. To be sure you don't go wrong, follow this guide. The bedspread must be larger in length and width. It should slightly drape over the edge of the mattress, as the purpose of the bedspread is to cover the entire bed and allow for a hem around the pillows. For the sides, the same logic applies: the bedspread must cover all the bed linen and therefore should extend beyond it. Size Guide: Which bedspread for your bed?
Size 170x230 cm:
For a single bed (90x190/200 cm): Offers full coverage with a beautiful drape on the sides. For a double bed: To be used folded at the foot of the bed (bed runner style) to add a decorative touch and depth without covering the entire bed.
Size 230x250 cm:
For a 140x200 cm bed: A generous drape (approximately 45 cm on each side) that almost touches the floor, perfectly concealing the bed base.
For a 160x200 cm (Queen size) bed:
The standard size for an elegant and fitted drape, allowing the bed legs to show. Size 270x250 cm: For a 160x200 cm (Queen size) bed: For those who love extensive drapes and a very enveloping, hotel suite-style effect.
For an 180x200 cm (King size) bed:
The essential size to fully cover this large bed with a comfortable drape on the sides. Le couvre-lit est conçu pour recouvrir et habiller l’ensemble du lit. Le boutis est un couvre-lit matelassé, reconnaissable à son relief et à son aspect plus enveloppant. Plus petit et polyvalent, le plaid se pose généralement au pied du lit ou s’utilise sur un canapé.
Un couvre-lit peut servir de couche légère supplémentaire, notamment à la mi-saison. Sa fonction principale reste toutefois de protéger et décorer le lit : pour les nuits froides, il ne remplace pas nécessairement une couette adaptée à la température de la chambre.
Consultez toujours l’étiquette, car l’entretien dépend de la matière et du garnissage. Pour un couvre-lit Bonsoirs en coton, privilégiez généralement un lavage à 30 °C, 40 °C maximum, un essorage doux autour de 800 tours/minute et un séchage à l’air libre. Les modèles matelassés ou en velours peuvent nécessiter un programme spécifique.
Centrez le couvre-lit afin d’obtenir une retombée régulière de chaque côté. Vous pouvez le déployer sur toute la surface, le replier sous les oreillers ou le plier en deux au pied du lit pour un rendu plus décontracté. L’essentiel est de conserver des lignes nettes et un tombé équilibré.
Pour les périodes douces, privilégiez un modèle léger et respirant, par exemple en coton ou en nid d’abeille. En hiver, un couvre-lit matelassé ou en velours apporte une sensation plus enveloppante. Un modèle réversible permet de faire évoluer facilement l’ambiance au fil des saisons.
